What You Need to Know about Your Child’s Pediatric Visit

The American Academy of Pediatrics offers guidelines on how often your child should have pediatric visits. Pediatric visits should happen when your baby is 2 to 5 days old. Subsequent pediatric visits should occur at 2 weeks, 1,2,4,6,9,15, and 18 months, and then again at 2 years old. These visits continue at least once each year as your child grows.

When you bring your child in for a pediatric visit, you can expect the pediatrician will:

• Record important information about your child’s height, weight, heart sounds, breathing, and other vital information
• Perform a comprehensive physical examination to check for any signs of illness or injury
